ANZAC Day

On the25th April each year, we remember the brave men and women who have served our country in times of war. It is ANZAC Day.The letters stand for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.

During the Frist World War,Australian and New Zealand soldiers fight together against the enemy. They landed on Gallipoli Turkey. It was a very hard fighting.Over 8,000 Australian soldiers were killed. News of the landing at Gallipoli made a profound impact on Australians at home and 25 April quickly became the day on which Australians remembered the sacrifice of those who had died in war.

Simpson and his donkey(Simpson put wounded soldiers on the donkey’s back and helped them to the first aid tent.)

The date, 25 April, was officially named ANZAC Day in 1916 .On the day, flowers and wreaths of red poppies are laid at the bottom of war memorials as a way of saying we have remembered these brave people. we show our thanks to the people who have fought for our country. We can wear ANZAC badges and wave Australian flags to show how proud we are.

The Ode is part of a special poem that is said during the ANZAC Day service. Here are the words:
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

We should never forget these brave Australians.
Lest We Forget
